What We Believe

 

  • The Scriptures are the inspired and inerrant Word of God.

    • 2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.

  • In one God, eternally existent in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

    • Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Isreal: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.

    • Matthew 28:19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

  • That Jesus Christ is true God and true man, conceived of the Holy Spirit. He died on the cross and shed his blood as a sacrifice for our sins: He rose odily from the dead, ascended into Heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Majesty on High.

    • John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

    • Hebrews 1:3 The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.

    • Philippians 2:9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name.

  • That man can be justified only through personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

    • John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

  • That water baptism identifies us with the death and burial of Christ, and that we should arise to walk in newness of life.

    • Matthew 28:19-20 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

  • That the true church is composed of such persons who, through saving faith in Jesus Christ, have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit.

    • John 1:12 Yet to all who received him, to hose who believed in his name, he gave thr giht to become children of God.

    • Colossians 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, and that in everything he might have the supremacy.

  • That Christ wants the members of His Church to carry the gospel into the entire world.

    • Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

 

Church Covenant

Article 3 (formally adopted August 14, 1899)

 

We whose names are hereunto subscribed, desiring to perpetuate a Christian church at Harrod, Allen County, Ohio, do hereby solemnly and prayerfully covenant and agree to unite ourselves together in church capacity for the promotion of mutual love and fellowship in Christian work; taking the Holy Bible as our all sufficient and only standard of religious faith and duty. The Lord Jesus Christ the head of the church as our only leader and commander. With Christian as the only name by which his followers are to be distinguished, not from each other, but from all others, also accepting Christian character, when manifested to us, as our only test of Christian fellowship and church membership; and realizing that the success of the church depends upon the consecration of its individual membership. We further covenant together that we will attend the services of this church when seasonable in our power to do so. Contribute to its support according to our ability and labor together to maintain its peace and harmony, extending cordial welcome to all applicants who are willing, sincerely and candidly to confess Christ before men. Subscribe to its covenant in good faith and unite with us in Christian work for the promotion of our Savior's Kingdom.
